WHO guidelines recommend a limit of 10 ppb (μg/l) for arsenic contamination in drinking water, not to say that this is a safe level. India has a permissible level of 50 ppb (μg/l) and a desirable level of 10 ppb (μg/l). Australia has reduced the limit to 7 ppb (μg/l), whilst in the USA; New Jersey & South Caroline have a limit of 5 ppb (μg/l).
